Harare’s Magic Screen Cinema at Sam Levy was alive with creativity last night as the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ), in partnership with the Lotteries and Gaming Board, unveiled three powerful short films funded under the 2025 Short Film Grant.

The guest of honour was the Deputy Minister of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Hon. Emily Jesaya, represented by Dr. Eugenia Chidhakwa, the Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry. The ministry’s presence underscored government’s commitment to nurturing Zimbabwe’s film industry and supporting emerging voices.

The spotlight shone on the talented grantees Bridget Anne Paradza, Jonathan Samukange, and Tatenda Hove whose films brought fresh Zimbabwean stories to the big screen. Their work reflects the diversity, resilience, and imagination of local filmmakers, marking a significant step in amplifying homegrown narratives.

Looking head in his remarks, NACZ CEO Mr. Napoleon Nyanhi announced the launch of the 2026 Short Film Grant, with an official call for submissions to be released soon. This announcement signals continued investment in the sector, offering more creatives the chance to transform their ideas into cinematic reality.
