The National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) extends its warmest congratulations to renowned visual artist, former NACZ Board Member, and founder of Mbare Art Space, Moffat Takadiwa, for being crowned the Grand Prize Winner of the inaugural Toyota Tsusho CFAO African Art Award.

Out of approximately 100 nominees representing the diverse art scenes of the continent, Takadiwa emerged as the top laureate. His selection followed a rigorous evaluation by a jury of 10 international experts who assessed artists based on originality, coherence, and relevance.

Takadiwa, a Harare Polytechnic alumnus known for his intricate mixed-media works, continues to fly the Zimbabwean flag high on the global stage. This win adds to an incredible streak of international recognition, including his recent features at the 60th Venice Biennale (2024) and the São Paulo Biennale (2025).

The award also honours four other outstanding emerging artists from across the continent:

As the Grand Prize winner, Takadiwa’s work will be featured in a series of prestigious exhibitions across Togo, Japan, and France, further cementing his status as a leading voice in contemporary African art.

The NACZ is immensely proud of Moffat’s achievement, which serves as an inspiration to the local creative sector and underscores the global impact of Zimbabwean talent.
